We were asked to create a pop up event space in a existing 8m x 8m outdoor area at the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, Broadbeach, Gold Coast.

The goal  was to launch new versions of the famous Croc brand: “Glow in the Dark”, “Iridescent” and “Sparkly” Crocs.

Projection mapping was also desired for the interior of the dome to match the theme of galaxies, nebulae and stars.

Challenge

The event space could only be accessed after shopping hours; between 6pm and 9am.

Access to the interior site did not allow for a fork lift carrying large ballast blocks.

No 3 phase power was available for air con.

Solution

All of the dome components plus flooring and hand-held concrete ballast blocks were transported into the site on utes.

A portable air-con unit (240 volts) was used in the dome.

A custom video of VR fulldome astronomical content was created.

Setup and execution

The entire dome set up of flooring, ballast, and projection mapping was done by a team of 4 in about 5 hours.

Stick on decals were applied as the dome was being build (from the top down)

A sound track was enabled by connecting by blue tooth to our media server using a mobile phone.

The video content was a 5 minute loop of 3 different space scenes including nebulae and star clusters.  The images were actual footage and complemented the ‘starry night’ theme of the new footwear styles.

An image entitled “Croctober” was also projected onto the dome screen in 3 positions.

The new footwear was displayed on illuminated plinths, and patrons could sit in the centre of the dome on illuminated coloured seating.
