Challenge
For the 15 day Mid-Winter Festival in Parramatta Square, Sydney, The Dome Company provided our pop-up 10 metre diameter Projection Dome/Fulldome cinema.
The dome was built in one day and shows ran from 10am to 9pm for 15 days
Shows were ticketed online and guests were able to lie on bean bags or sit in chairs around the dome perimeter.
Solution
Parramatta Council chose a variety of leased Fulldome movies from the Fulldome Data Base and local Australian sources.
The movies included:
Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon. from NSC, Leicester
Great Solar System Adventure. from NSC, Leicester
One Step Beyond; A Journey to Mars from NSC, Leicester
The Earth Above. from Uni of Wollongong Science Space
Star Dreaming. from Prospero Productions, Perth
Kenya, Borneo & Raja Ampat from Phoria Studio, Melbourne
The above movies were 30 minutes long with Pink Floyd and Star Dreaming being 45 minutes and the Phoria documentaries @ 15 mins
30 – 35 guests were easily accommodated and for several shows there were 53 people in the dome
In the second week of the festival most of the shows were sold out.
Over 6,000 people were entertained in the projection dome over the 15 days and the responses were overwhelmingly positive.
For many folk, this was their first experience of fulldome cinema or planetarium-style projection.
